IES officer held for assaulting JNU girl

An Indian Engineering Services (IES) officer was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting and stalking a Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student for the last five years. The victim was a minor for a part of this period.

Rakesh Meena, 26, who works at the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways as an Assistant Ex-engineer, was arrested on Monday after the student complained to the Delhi Police about the alleged sexual harassment.

A case under section 354 (assault or criminal force to women with intent to outrage her modesty), 354A (making sexually coloured remarks), 354D (stalking), 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a women, 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) as well as relevant sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) have been registered against him.

Describing her ordeal, the victim said in her complaint, “Sometimes he would come to the student library along with two or three persons in an inebriated state. He also tried to attack me with a weapon. When I objected, he started to blackmail me. He said that he would morph my pictures.”
