In light of the increasing terrorist attacks at Metro stations globally, the Intelligence Bureau is conducting an audit of the security set up of Delhi Metro to check for vulnerabilities. The survey is expected to usher in major structural changes in the existing security set up.

Talking to DNA, a highly-placed source in the Central Industrial Security Force that guards the Delhi Metro, said the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation and the paramilitary force have also been roped in with major stations like Kashmere Gate and Rajiv Chowk being covered first. The stations have been prioritised based on footfall, threat perception and number of exits, entrances.

According to a document accessed by DNA, on November 28, the IB team conducted security audit between 10 am to 1 pm at the Noida City Centre Metro station.

"During this period, a meeting was also held between the CISF, DMRC and IB," it read. It further mentioned that the same day, the Kashmere Gate station was also audited between 11.30 am to 3.15 pm.

"Following the St Petersburg Metro train bombing in April this year and then the two attacks in London Metro, strengthening the security set up of the Delhi metro became a priority. The Intelligence Bureau has now started an audit for the entire Metro system. The process started early last month and will continue for a few coming weeks," the officer said.

The officer also hinted that once the survey is over, the Intelligence Bureau will file a detailed report asking for crucial changes to further tighten the security. This, he said, may lead to major structural changes in the existing security set up. "The reported will be sent to CISF, DMRC as well as the Delhi Police, and the recommendations will be considered seriously," he added.
