IAS officer DK Ravi, who took on land and sand mafia, found dead

“Ravi was found hanging from ceiling by his wife Kusuma who got suspicious when Ravi did not respond to the phone calls. She found him dead at 5.45 pm,’’ Police Commissioner Reddi said.

IAS officer DK Ravi, posted as Joint Commissioner, Commercial Tax Department, on Monday ended his life by allegedly committing suicide. Ravi was known for taking on land and sand mafia while working as Deputy Commissioner for Kolar District. 

Speaking to media persons, MN Reddi, Police Commissioner said  that Ravi would have ended life after 11 am at St. John’s Wood Apartments in Koramangala.

“Ravi was found hanging from ceiling by his wife Kusuma who got suspicious when Ravi did not respond to the phone calls. She found him dead at 5.45 pm,’’ Reddi said.

He said the statements of Ravi’s personal assistant and driver would be recorded and CCTV camera footage would be investigated.

“We are also curious to know the reasons for the suicide. However, police do not find any scope for any foul play. A special investigation team is formed under Rohini Katoch Sepat, Deputy Commissioner of Police,’’ he said adding that a cloth was used to hang from a fan.

Ravi, a 2009 batch IAS officer, was posted as Additional Commissioner of Commercial Taxes in October. Ravi’s work as Deputy Commissioner, especially action taken against sand and land mafia earned him good name among people of Kolar.

Various organizations and residents observed Kolar District bandh when he was transferred. Home Minister K J George visited the spot. The police have shifted the body to Victoria Hospital for postmortem. The police said the postmortem would be conducted on Tuesday.
