The family members of IAS officer Anurag Tiwari, who was found dead under mysterious circumstances, on Monday met Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and demanded a CBI probe into his death. The CM has complied and a special team has been formed.

Tiwari’s body was found on the road, 50 metres away from the State Guest House in Lucknow on May 16. He was staying in the guesthouse with his batchmate P N Singh after returning from a training programme in Mussourie.

“We have no faith in the lopsided investigation being carried by the police and the SIT. We have briefed the Chief Minister and demanded a CBI probe. The Chief Minister has assured to look into our demand,” said Mayank Tiwari, Anurag’s brother.

Alleging that his brother’s mobile phone had been tampered with by the investigating agencies without seeking permission from family members, Mayank added, “The investigative agencies have not recorded our statements, showing their callousness.”

After meeting the family, the CM summoned the team of doctors that conducted the post-mortem and asked for all files related to the probe. Earlier, the CM had also formed a special investigative team (SIT) to probe the death and submit it within three days.

Meanwhile, the Karnataka government has shot off letters to the Uttar Pradesh government demanding that a high-level probe be conducted to unravel the mystery behind Tyagi’s death.

The SIT team had reconstructed the death spot scene on Sunday and is likely to submit the report to the Chief Minister in a day or two. The SSP Deepak Kumar said that a separate probe is being carried out by the Hazratganj police which awaiting the forensic reports to complete its inquiry.

Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh police registered a case of murder against unknown people as part of their probe to crack the mystery behind Tiwari’s death.

"An FIR has been registered in Hazratganj police station against unidentified persons in IAS officer Anurag Tiwari's case under IPC section 302 (murder). The complaint was lodged by his brother Mayanak," Circle Officer, Hazratganj, Avanish Kumar Mishra told PTI.
