IAF craft crashes in Hyd, pilot safe

A trainer aircraft of the Indian Air Force crashed on Thursday after getting airborne from Air Force Station Hakimpet in Hyderabad but the pilot managed to eject and is safe. The Kiran aircraft was on a routine training mission with a trainee when the incident happened.

"The pilot is safe and a court of inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the accident," the Air Force said in a statement. The aircraft was completely damaged after the crash. The Kiran is a trainer aircraft being used by the force for years. The pilot was on a training sortie and was flying alone.

Earlier in May, two pilots of Sukhoi fighter jet died after their aircraft crashed. The ruins of the aircraft were traced 60 km north-west of Tezpur, Assam. The two-seater Su-30 MKI jet with two pilots on board, had gone missing shortly after taking off from the Tezpur Salonibari air force station on a routine sortie as part of a two-aircraft formation. They dropped below the radar and lost radio contact with controlling station.
