At the age of 15, life gives him a huge blow. Saurav Singh went through the trauma of losing his beloved sister, Nirbhaya, at the hands of savages. Her dream of being a doctor was shattered and now he has decided to pursue it.

“My sister, brother Gaurav and I had a dream to become doctor, engineer and astronaut respectively and buy a simple house and car for the family,” he recalls while continuing, “Didi wanted to be a doctor because hamare khandaan me koi judge hai, engineer hai par doctor koi nahi hai. She was aware of my dreams of becoming an astronaut and used to guide me.”

After the Delhi incident, his father asked him to drop the idea of becoming an astronaut and choose medical as a career. “My father wants me to fulfill my sister’s dreams. I will honour his decision and fulfill their dreams,” states this student of 11th standard who has opted for science.

His parents and elder brother usually make sure to keep him away from the case proceedings but he has been affected by it. “I could not focus on my studies for almost a year. A lot of people keep coming to our place regarding this and I can’t concentrate,” he shares while raising his concern over the lack of strict punishments to the juvenile convict and time taking court trials.

“It is really traumatising to face the trials and recall the same incident over again. Neither my parents wanted us to attend the court proceedings nor do we want them to attend the proceedings,” adds Saurav who has attended it thrice.

“Uss din ka khaufnaak sach sunne se darr lagta hai. We all are broken from inside but are trying to overcome and fight to get justice for my sister,” he ends.
