The firebrand, outspoken Congress leader Narayan Rane dropped a bombshell on the floor of the Maharashtra sate legislative council on Tuesday saying that a cabinet minister from the BJP had molested a woman IAS officer in his cabin, and that he has got the CCTV footage of the incident.

As the treasury benches slipped into silence, Rane went on to allege that even after the incident no action was taken against the minister. The former chief minister was speaking on the recent gangrape and murder of a minor girl in Ahmednagar's Kopardi village.

Rane said that if Mantralaya itself is turning unsafe for working women officers, how can chief minister Devendra Fadnavis ensure the security of general public? "Fadnavis, who is also handling the home portfolio, has failed to maintain the law and order situation in the state," he said adding that the incident at the Mantralaya happened in day light.

"This woman IAS complained to a senior minister and requested him to warn the minister. However, nothing was done on the issue. That woman IAS is still feeling unsafe. This minister has to be immediately sacked, booked and arrested," Rane demanded.

As the treasury benches took to protesting, Rane said: "If you try to disrupt my speech, I may even reveal the name of the accused minister in the house itself."

Soon after the House proceedings, senior ministers including Chandrakant Patil, Vinod Tawde and Girish Bapat met with CM Fadnavis, where it was decided to take Rane to task for making "baseless allegations".

Demanding that Rane should either present evidence or apologise, Chandrakant Patil said that Rane spoke on the rape and murder incident in Ahmednagar district for 2 minutes and resorted to wild allegations for 48 minutes.

Patil said that Rane said that there are three chief ministers and that BJP is a party of goons, for which too he will have to give substantiation or apologise.

Privilege motion against Rane today

Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis later told dna that he would give a befitting reply to Rane during his speech to the debate on the rape and murder incident of Ahmednagar girl on the floor of the House on Thursday, and that a privilege motion will be moved on the issue.
