This is Obama's first visit to India after leaving office in January.
Former US President Barack Obama said he likes Prime Minister Narendra Modi who has a vision for the country and is modernising elements of bureaucracy.
"I like him. He has a vision for the country and he is modernising elements of bureaucracy," Obama said while addressing an audience at the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit 2017 on Friday.
"I was also great friends with Dr (Manmohan) Singh... when you look at the steps Dr Singh took to modernising the economy; it was the foundation for modernising Indian economy," Obama added.
“Dr Singh was the primary partner while we were working during the financial metldown. PM Modi was the primary partner during making of Paris accord. Both of them were sound leaders,” the US President added.
Obama is in Delhi to address a townhall for the Obama Foundation today.
"I will be conducting a townhall with young leaders of India who can share with me some of the works they are trying to do to make communities better and also answer questions on how Obama Foundation can help," Obama said on Facebook.
The townhall is schedule to be held at 3.45 pm.
"The meet will expand the conversation about what it means to be an active citizen and make an impact and how the Obama Foundation can support emerging leaders in this effort," Obama's office said in a statement.
The bilateral relations between India and US reached a new level under Obama administration. Obama served as the chief of Republic Day celebrations in 2015 and also co-hosted PM Modi's radio programme "Mann ki Baat". PM Modi and Obama have met nine unprecedented times till now. PM Modi was also grandly hosted at the White House during his US visit by Obama.
