Former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Ashok Kumar Chauhan, who formally joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday, said that he took this decision because he got inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"I have been inspired by Modiji, which is why I took this decision," Chauhan told ANI in Delhi. Meanwhile, AAP leader Satyendra Jain alleged that Chauhan joined the BJP as he was denied a ticket by his party.

"There were lot of complaints against him and he wasn't given ticket. So he jumped parties. If there comes any complaint against any candidate then we look into the matter," he said.

When asked about lack of democracy being cited as reason by those quitting AAP, Jain said, "When they are going so they can say anything now. If there was some problem then they could have accused before also. We are not afraid of any accusation and we will do for what we have come."

The Union Cabinet had given its approval for the dissolution of the Delhi State Assembly after holding a meeting to discuss Lieutenant-Governor (LG) Najeeb Jung's recommendation.

Jung had sent a status report to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) over government formation in the capital after consultations with the leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), where all the parties had expressed their inability to form the government in Delhi.

Delhi has been under President's rule since February after the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP government stepped down after 49 days in power.
