Famous Hollywood star Emma Watson, known for portraying character of Hermoine Granger in the popular Harry Potter movies, has hailed the 39-year-old advocate Deepika Singh Rajawat for pleading the case of the parents of the eight-year-old rape and murder victim of Kathua.

“All power to Deepika Singh Rajawat”, Emma Watson tweeted along with the viral picture of Rajawat clicked minutes before the hearing in the Supreme Court last month.

Tweet from Emma Watson, who is also United Nations Women's goodwill ambassador, has given the young lawyer a reason to smile. “I am really honored. I am humbled and overwhelmed. But I will be happier when the little girl will get justice”, Rajawat told DNA.

Defying threats and abuses, a young woman lawyer embarked on an arduous journey to provide justice to the eight-year-old tribal nomad girl who was brutally gang-raped in a religious place for days before being strangulated to death in Kathua district in January this year.

Rajawat, who is also the chairperson Voice for Rights, an NGO working for the protection of Human Rights, had to face threats and verbal abuse by fellow lawyers. Despite that, Rajawat did not give up and continued to appear on behalf of the victim’s parents seeking justice for eight-year-old tribal nomad girl.

However, Emma’ tweet has come as a big support for the lawyer who has been battling odds to get justice for the little girl. “This (Emma’s reaction) is a kind of encouragement and support. This shows that people are with us and seeking justice for this little girl”, Rajawat said.

Crime Branch, probing the rape and murder case, has already filed a charge sheet against eight people including Sanjhi Ram, a retired revenue official and the alleged mastermind of the crime, his son Vishal Jangotra and his nephew who is a juvenile. Other accused include Parvesh Kumar alias Mannu, Special Police Officers (SPOs) of Deepak Kumar Khajuria alias Deepu and Surinder Kumar, Sub Inspector of Hiranangar police station Anand Dutta and head constable Tilak Raj.

Chilling details have emerged in the horrific rape and murder of the eight-year-old tribal nomad girl in the Kathua district. From being drugged to being gang raped in a revered religious place, the bone-chilling crime had all the wicked traits of lust, hatred and revenge.
