Hyderabad: Woman kills two-year-old son on his birthday, tries to commit suicide

A woman allegedly killed her two-year-old son on his birthday at Parsigutta area in Hyderabad on Wednesday, police said.

Meena Kumari, the accused, often fought with her husband Narasimha, police said. She allegedly strangulated her son at their house on Wednesday and later tried to end her own life by hanging herself.

Neighbours however intervened and took her to hospital where her condition was stated to be out of danger, a police officer said.

"It seems the woman asked the husband for money for celebrating the son's birthday, and when he refused, she killed the son in a fit of anger," the officer said, citing the complaint lodged by Narasimha.

Chilkalguda police have registered a case of murder and attempt to commit suicide against her. Further probe is on.
