A group of youngsters which included transgenders were reportedly denied entry into Inox at GVK One mall. The incident has caused outrage on social media.
According to a report in The Hindu, the group of youngsters had gone to watch the film Time Out in the multiplex. Vyjayanthi Vasanta Mogli, a transgender who works for a corporate, was stopped and asked to leave when she was at the ticket counter, the report says.
The security guard identified himself as head of security and reportedly asked why she had come to the mall. When she stated they had come to watch the film, the report says he asked them to leave.
Madhumati, another transgender, in the group was also questioned by the security personnel. Mogli’s friend, Shyam Konnur, is a gay rights activist and was also part of the group. When the group raised the issue, the management of the theatre reportedly refused to apologise. They instead said the check was done randomly and didn’t target transgenders.
The report adds that Mogli has stated that corporate companies should implement the Nalsa judgement. They now plan to file a complaint against the human rights violation.
