A 23-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself in her hostel room in Hyderabad on Sunday. 

"Today a 23-year-old MBA 2nd year student committed suicide by hanging herself to a ceiling fan in her college hostel room," Inspector of Petbasheerabad police station told news agency. 

The victim has been identified as B Haneesha Chowdhary and was a 2nd-year student at Siva Sivani Institute of Management, Kompally.

It is believed that Chowdhary took the extreme step while video chatting with her boyfriend Dakshit Patel, early in the morning. Patel and Chowdhary had been dating for a while now. 

"Today a 23-year-old MBA 2nd year student committed suicide by hanging herself to a ceiling fan in her college hostel room," Inspector of Petbasheerabad police station told news agency. 

"A minor argument broke out between them after which she seems to have told him that she was going to end her life," said the police officer. 

The reason behind the suicide is yet to be ascertained. 

As of now, the body has been sent for an autopsy to state-run Gandhi Hospital in Secunderabad. A case has been registered under section 174 of Code of Criminal Procedure.

An investigation is underway.
