In a sensational development in Hyderabad, two constables and a driver of a police patrol party chased and nabbed a sepoy of Indian Army while he was trying to sexually assault a 19-year-old girl.

While this incident occurred late on Tuesday evening,  subsequent fast-track investigation and a 'DNA profiling report' which was provided in a record 24 hours by the Telangana State Forensics Lab also proved that this sepoy was involved in rape of daughter of a retired Army officer in December 2017.

The culprit, 32-year-old Brajesh Kumar Yadav, is presently posted as sepoy in 54 Infantry Division Signal Regiment in Secunderabad cantonment and is native of Ranipur, Bhagalpur in Bihar.  In December last year,  the sepoy raped a 15-year-old girl at the same spot where was caught yesterday.

This entire area is part of Secunderabad Cantonment with offices and residences of Army personnel.  Since December, cops of Tirumalgherry police station in Secunderabad, under whose jurisdiction these crimes were detected, were on the lookout for this culprit as per the description given by the first victim.

"Around 8.30 pm yesterday, while we were patrolling in an area which is secluded I saw some three people in a scuffle. When I went closer I saw this well-built man hitting a boy and was trying to drag a girl into the bushes. I shouted at him and as I ran towards him he too started running. While running for about 600 metres there was a pit and he fell into that as it was dark. I too jumped, pinned him down and shouted for my colleagues to come fast,'' said  S.Chandrashekar, constable of Tirumalgherry police station.

Sensing some serious problem, constable S. Narendra and patrol vehicle driver constable Hari Ram Sharma ( an ex-Army person ) ran and helped their colleague Chandrashekar in securing culprit Brajesh Kumar Yadav.  After bringing the sepoy to police station, the police interrogated him and based on his initial words swiftly sought help of Telangana State Forensic Lab for "DNA profiling report.''

"We found the crime pattern very similar in both the incidents. In the first case which occurred in December last year, the victim had told us about a bike which had 'Army' written on it, and yesterday too we found the same bike. Thanks to the 'DNA profiling report', it is now proven beyond any doubt that this sepoy was also involved in the rape of 15-year-old girl and was attempting to rape the 19-year-old girl.'' said Hyderabad police commissioner Anjani Kumar.

Sepoy Brajesh Kumar Yadav has been charged under sections 376 r/w 511 IPC, 325, 353, 354 IPC along with the Section 6 of POSCO Act. The three police personnel of the Tirumalgherry Police Station- S.Chandrashekar, S.Narendra & Hariram Sharma were given cash rewards by the Hyderabad police commissioner for their heroic effort.
