On Thursday, the Hyderabad police commissioner Mahendar Reddy has issued orders banning the use of drones from January 8 to February 7. This is after an Intelligence Bureau warning that para-gliders, remote-controlled drones and micro-light aircraft could be used for possible terror attacks in the city.
A report in The New Indian Express states that the commissioner has said that prior permission needs to be taken for the use of remotely-controlled drones or para-gliders or remotely-controlled micro-light aircrafts during this period.
In a statement, Reddy said, “No organisation or individual will be allowed to launch unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), unmanned aerial survey (UAS), etc. In case of government agencies, they should obtain appropriate clearance from local police and aviation authorities before launching any UAS/UAV for any purpose.”
Any individual contravening this order would be punishable under Section 188 of Indian Penal Code, 1860.
