Rail services on the Mumbai-Pune Ghat section of Khandala were left affected after the engine of 17031 Hyderabad bound express from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CST) derailed on Tuesday.
As per Central Railway (CR) officials the incident occurred around 3.30 pm on the middle line between Thakurwadi-Monkeyhill stretch. No passengers were injured due to the derailment.
"The engine was derailed due to a boulder that must have fallen on the tracks from the hills in the ghat section. An Accident Relief Train (ART) was dispatched from Kalyan soon after the incident was reported," said AK Singh, PRO, Central Railway (CR) adding that investigation would be conducted into the incident.
Even DK Sharma, General Manager, CR along with DRM and other senior railway officials rushed to the site to supervise the restoration work.Traffic on the down main line between Karjat and Khandala was resumed at 5.30 pm.

The incessant rains in the areas around these hill stations have caused landslides in the ghat section.
