In an unprecedented incident, a massive ruckus occurred in the West Bengal assembly over a heated discussion regarding Property Damage Bill. The opposition wanted more amendments to it and became agitated when they were overruled by the speaker.  According to Zee 24 Ghanta, speaker suspended senior Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, Abdul Mannan. He refused to leave the house a ruckus ensued when marshals tried to force him out. He sat in the assembly, but soon fell ill. He then laid down on the floor. He was then stretchered out and was promptly taken to SSKM hospital.

Today, when the assembly was discussing Property Damage Bill, Abdul Mannan came with pictures of the assembly ransacked in the past allegedly by TMC leaders. The speaker asked Abdul Mannan to remove the posters from his body.  But he refused to do so. Later his amendments were also rejected. According to Zee 24 Ghanta, Mannan tried to grab the mace and run. When the marshals sought to stop him, Left and Congress MLAs joustled with the guards. Amidst this ruckus, Mannan's throat was allegedly grabbed. The Congress also alleged that a female MLA was roughed up during the altercation. Infuriated, the Congress and Left leaders are set to decide on the next course of action to protest against the incident.

The Speaker had asked Mannan, the Congress MLA from Champdani, to withdraw for the day but he remained defiant and was suspended. As soon as he was suspended, Mannan sat in the Well of the House and the marshalls tried to forcibly evict him, leading to a scuffle between them and Congress members. The Congress leader fell sick during the scuffle and was taken to a hospital in an ambulance.

The Congress and the Left legislators staged a walkout from the House protesting against the incident. Meanwhile, Congress MLA Pratima Rajak claimed that she was molested by security officials. "The security (officials) pulled me by my saree and tried to kick me," Rajak, the MLA from Burwan, told reporters.

The West Bengal Maintenance of Public Order (Amendment) Bill, 2017 was later passed in the House and the Speaker asked the assembly secretary to take note of the benches which were damaged by opposition MLAs.

"Why are they opposed to this bill? Because they (opposition) don't believe in peaceful movements. They believe in destroying public and government property. We will not let this happen," Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said in the assembly.
