HRD Minister Smriti Irani, who has been accused during her tenure for her pandering towards RSS' calls for a 'revision' of India's education system, met with an astrologer on Sunday in Rajasthan, during a visit there.

According to reports, Smriti met with Pandit Nathulal Vyas on a visit to Bhilwara with her husband Zubin. Vyas had predicted a bright political future for Irani earlier this year, before NDA took charge of India for the second time.

Reports say that her meeting with Vyas went for as long as four hours. In that duration, Irani had asked Vyas various questions based on her political and personal lives in the future. She also thanked Vyas for his earlier 'predictions' about her.

Irani was dismissive of the meeting when reporters asked her about the meeting on Monday. She reportedly said, "I realise I contribute to your TRPs and I am glad I could be of help. What I do in my personal life doesn't come under the responsibility of the media. I appreciate your efforts to keep me in the headlines".

This meeting may just have provided further fuel for her critics who have trained guns on her in the past week over the Sanskrit controversy.

JD(U) leader Ali Anwar told mediapersons, "The next time I meet her, I will recite this couplet: Haathon ki lakeeron par itna na aitbaar kariye/ naseeb unka bhi hota hai jinke haath nahi hote (Do not have so much faith on the lines on your palms/ the ones with no hands also possess a fate).  It is not right that the person who should be campaigning against superstitions...is spreading myths".

Cabinet minister Najma Hepatullah, however, defended her colleague, saying astrology is a science and she herself has faith in astrology.
