How many times have you been told by the airline staff that your luggage exceeds the permissible limit and you have to pay an extra amount for excess baggage? We usually end up paying the amount as we do not want to throw away our precious possessions and cannot return home to re-pack the bags again. A woman in the Philippines adopted an entirely different tactic to avoid paying the excess baggage fee.

When Gel Rodriguez found out that her bag weighed 9 kg even though she was allowed to take only 7 kg to the flight, she took out some of the clothes from her suitcase and wore them.

Rodriguez went viral on social media after she posted a photo of herself on Facebook wearing excess clothes from her suitcase. In her October 2 Facebook post, she explained that in order to avoid paying the excess baggage fee, she wore 2.5 kilograms of additional clothing which she had packed in the suitcase.

The staff at the airport informed her that she could only carry 7kg of carry-on luggage. Rodriguez, who was carrying 9 kg of carry-on baggage, did not want to pay the extra money and adopted a technique that has been used by many in the past. As there is no limit on how much clothes you can wear, she reduced piled extra layer of clothes on herself and reduced the weight of the suitcase ro 6.5 kg.

"*from 9kg to 6.5kg baggage"#ExcessBaggageChallengeAccepted," she captioned her photo on Facebook which has now been shared 21,000 times and has been liked by over 35,000 users.

"If I had known it would go viral, I would have posed better," Vice quoted Gen Rodriguez as saying.

She, however, cautioned other airline passengers against doing this as she felt "really hot" in all the excess layers of clothing.
