From striking a post poll alliance with arch rival Janata Dal (S) to resort politics to bribe audio-video clips came quite handy for the Congress party to foil BJP's attempt to stick to power in Karnataka. Congress party's former chief Sonia and current president Rahul Gandhi gave free hand to the state leaders including former Siddaramaiah and party's master strategist DK Shivakumar with his brother DK Suresh to keep its flock together.

On top of it, the renewed bonhomie between Congress and JD(S) after fighting a bitter fight played a major role to keep both united and successfully counter BJP's successive attempts to lure some of the legislators ahead of crucial vote trust.

Congress also maintained stiff public pressure and kept the perception in their favour by holding multiple news conferences post polls.

Party heavyweights Gulam Nabi Azad and Ashok Gehlot along with leader in the Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, general secretary in charge of Karnataka KC Venugopal worked as guide and philosopher and also kept JD(S) leaders in good humour. JD(S) leader HD Kumarswamy's announcement not to ditch Congress to join hands with BJP to gain power sent much needed positive signal in the grand old party.

Governor Vajubhai Vala's decision to invite BS Yeddyurappa first forced Congress in particular to resort to all the possible permutations and combinations to defeat Yeddyurapa in the trust vote. Congress party's decision to approach Supreme Court challenging the Governor's move and the subsequent order asking Yeddyurappa to prove majority on Saturday and not in 15 days brought cheers on the face of party leaders.

Azad, Siddamaiah and Gehlot stepped up attack against BJP leadership for belittling the office of the Governor. They later fire salvo against BJP, the party led Central government for ''abduction'' of party's legislators and offering money and cabinet posts. Even though BJP leaders including Prakash Javadekar and others termed it as Congress party's ''dirty'' politics, Congress was not budged but released three audio video clips. The bribe bomb made BJP restless.

Further, Congress legislator DK Shivakumar played a major role to move legislators from Bengaluru to Hyderabad and back to Bengaluru. He maintained regular contacts with party's two missing legislators Anand Singh and Pratap Gowda Patil. However, he succeeded to bring them back in the assembly ahead of trust vote. Central leadership's support to Shivakumar helped him work 24x7 literally to avoid poaching of legislators by BJP.

Even though the party challenged appointment of KG Bopaiah as Pro tem speaker, the party welcomed the Supreme Court decision for live telecast of the assembly proceedings. This the party leaders argued helped BJP not to engineer any split on the floor.

Congress asked the legislators to install an app on their phones and record the calls they receive.
