In yet another case of medical negligence in the Capital, a private diagnostic centre wrongly declared an Uttarakhand resident HIV positive. Taking action against the centre, the Delhi Medical Council (DMC) has now directed the authorities to cancel the licence of the diagnostic centre.

Complainant Salim Ahmad had applied for a job in Dubai and needed a medical fitness certificate for the purpose. A tout referred the Neutech Medical Centre at Taimoor Nagar in New Friends Colony to Ahmad, which declared him HIV positive. He then decided to get a second opinion.

To Ahmad's surprise, the two other centres he approached reported him completely fit. "This callous attitude of the diagnostic centre is highly deplorable and reflects poorly on the management in-charge. This is incompetence. Our committee examined the other two test reports as well, which declared the complainant completely healthy," Dr Girish Tyagi, registrar, DMC, said. The DMC's Executive Committee then examined Ahmad's complaint and asked the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) to cancel the license of the diagnostic centre.

"Despite repeated notices sent to the Superintendent of the Neutech Medical Centre, it failed to submit a written statement and medical records pertaining to the treatment and tests of Ahmad," Dr Tyagi added.
