A horse-cart driver was killed in Muktsar on Tuesday after being hit by a bus allegedly belonging to the Badal family while a 40-year-old man was run over in Bathinda by a bus said to belong to an Akali Dal leader.

According to police, the victim, identified as Roshan Lal, was declared brought dead at the hospital where he was taken after the mishap near Kabarwala village on Abohar Malout road. Family members of the deceased held a protest in front of the hospital and raised slogans against the Badal government while police impounded the bus and registered a case in this regard.

In Bathinda, the bus which crushed to death a 40-year-old Dalit man was alleged to belong to an Akali leader.

Aam Aadmi Party, meanwhile, condemned the two deaths and demanded a ban on buses owned by Badals and their close confidants. A political storm had erupted in Punjab last year after a woman and her teenaged daughter were allegedly molested and thrown off a running bus belonging to the Badal family, leaving the girl dead and the mother seriously wounded.
