Still hopeful of stopping BS Yeddyurappa from deserting the BJP, party national president Nitin Gadkari has decided to personally try one last time to convince the former chief minister to abandon his plans of floating a new party.

Gadkari has also issued gag orders to state leaders not to react to any statements of Yeddyurappa, who has been attacking the party leadership now almost on a daily basis.

BJP state leaders met in Bangalore on Monday to chalk out plans to offset effect on the party if Yeddyurappa quits and have come out with elaborate plan spread over the next two months to strengthen the party.

The meeting also decided to invite Yeddyurappa to participate in all the BJP conventions to be organised over the next two months to build the party. “We have decided to organise several BJP conventions in the state over the next two months, including the national SC & ST convention in Bangalore on October 27. Yeddyurappa too would be invited to these conventions,” BJP spokesperson and Lok Sabha member Prahlad Joshi said after the meeting.

When asked whether Yeddyurappa would attend the conventions as he has already announced that he would launch his own party on December 10, Joshi said, “We are confident that Yeddyurappa will attend. I will not answer any questions on imaginary situations.”

While the BJP leadership is preparing to fight the next assembly elections without Yeddyurappa, the party leadership has intensified its efforts to dissuade his loyalists from quitting the party. Even opposition Congress is worried about reports of some of Congress leaders from northern Karnataka joining the Yeddyurappa bandwagon.

Meanwhile, the Yeddyurappa camp is preparing for a mega rally on December 10 to be organised at Haveri to announce the formation of new party. When contacted, Yedyurappa straight away rejected any peace proposal by the high command. “I have come far away from the BJP. The question of returning to the party does not arise.

I have already started preparations to build my own party. The statement is a desperate attempt by the BJP leaders to create confusion among my supporters and retain them,” Yedyurappa said. “I am not ready to speak to any leaders based in New Delhi and I will build my party in the state,” he added.
