Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh issued a strong warning to Pakistan on Sunday and said that India has shown it can carry out surgical strikes against its enemies on their soil.

“A few months ago, Pakistan, in an act of cowardice, attacked and martyred 17 of our jawans. Prime Minister Narendra Modi consulted all of us on this serious issue, and the Indian Army entered the Pakistani area and killed militants,” Singh said at a public meeting here.

The strong comments come at a time when Pakistan is repeatedly resorting to ceasefire violations, resulting in casualties on the Indian side.

“India’s image in the world has become that of a strong nation and we have given a strong message to the world that we can attack our enemies not only on our soil, but also in their territory. India has developed this power,” he said.

Singh’s remarks also come almost a month after a group of five Army commandos crossed the LoC and killed three Pakistani soldiers and smashed a post.

“I reassure people of the country that the Union government will go to any extent to keep the flag high. Indian Army is known for its valour world over and it has shown that it is capable of not knowing defending the nation but if required will cross borders to defeat the opponents,” Singh added.

Addressing a gathering of Railway employees in his parliamentary constituency Lucknow, Singh reiterated that India believe in keeping good relations with neighbouring countries. “But at the same time, our Armed Forces know how to deal with those promoting cross border terrorism,” he said.

The Union Home Minister assured Railway employees that he will personally take up their issues with the Railway Minister. He also distributed Indian Citizenship certificates to 52 Sindhi families who had migrated from Pakistan to Lucknow in 1947.
