Hizbul Mujahideen supremo and United Jihad Council (UJC) chief Syed Salahudin on Friday felicitated the family of a top foreign militant, Osama alias Saifullah, who was killed along with Kashmiri associate Aqib Molvi in a 15-hour-long encounter at Tral in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on March 5.

Salahudin gave a citation to Osama’s family and a roadside signboard was also installed in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK), naming a colony after Osama. The pictures of the signpost naming a locality as ‘Osama Basti’ with credits to Hizbul Muhadeen have gone viral. A picture of Salahudin — who heads UJC, an umbrella group of more than a dozen militant outfits in PoK — with Osama, probably taken before he infiltrated into Kashmir, have also surfaced in the valley. Sources said Osama was a close aide of Salahudin before he infiltrated into the Kashmir valley.

Osama and Molvi, a close associate of Hizbul poster-boy Burhan Wani, were killed in a fierce encounter at Hyuna-Appu village of Tral on March 5. A policeman was also killed and three others, including an army major, were injured in the gunfight.

While Jammu and Kashmir police have launched a full-fledged investigation into the fresh reports, the ruling BJP has upped the ante demanding more surgical strikes on terror camps in PoK and declaring Pakistan a terrorist state.

“Since it has come to notice, we will investigate the matter,” SP Pani, deputy inspector general of police, South Kashmir, told DNA

The BJP, which is an alliance partner of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jammu and Kashmir, said the developments have once again proved Pakistan’s complicity in terrorism. The party has demanded more surgical strikes against the terror camps operating in PoK.

“Pakistan has been exposed once again for sponsoring terrorism against India. There are terrorist training camps in PoK, where youth are recruited and trained for terrorist activities in Kashmir. Pakistani agencies like ISI and its military are fully backing the terrorist activities against India. The time has come when the world community should declare Pakistan a terrorist state,” said Ravinder Raina, a BJP MLA from the Nowshera constituency.

Raina urged New Delhi to carry out more surgical strikes on terror camps in the future. “Many more surgical strikes need to be carried out in the future. There are training camps in PoK. Syed Salahudin is being patronised by Pakistan,” he said.
