A Hizbul Mujahideen operative surrendered before the Border Security Force in Kashmir on Saturday.
The terrorist, identified as 34-year-old Muzafar Ahmed Wani, surrendered unconditionally.
He is a resident of Braw Bandina area of Pulwama district in Jammu and Kashmir.
The man was wanted in connection with an encounter between terrorists and security forces that had taken place in Pulwama district's Drabgam village on November 25 this year.
A police officer at the time had said that an encounter broke out after terrorists fired on security personnel posted at a vehicle checkpoint on Shadimarg in the south Kashmir district,
Two terrorists - Irfan Ahmed Sheikh and Irfan Ahmed Rather - were killed in the encounter with security forces. The terrorists were believed to be part of a local cell of Hizbul Mujahideen operating in Kashmir.
The vehicle in which the two terrorists were travelling was being driven by Wani. They were using the vehicle to carry out their terror activities.
