Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik on Sunday said history is not only what had been propagated by the Britishers and written by some persons, but there was lot more beyond that. Speaking on the occasion of launch of special edition of monthly magazine 'Rashtradharma', Naik said using "His Excellency" for the Governor was a colonial word.

"What was propagated by the Britishers and what was written by some persons, people consider it to be history. But there is history beyond whatever had been propagated and what ever had been written," he said. The Governor said often it was said that what happened in 1857 was a 'Gadar', whereas in reality it was the first struggle for freedom about which Veer Savarkar disseminated the factual information to the people.

He said there was no difference between what Swami Vivekanand said about Hinduism and what was being said today. "There was a need to understand Hinduism," Naik said.
