On the anniversary of Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombing, Lok Sabha on Wednesday remembered the victims, with Speaker Sumitra Mahajan saying everyone should strive for elimination of weapons of mass destruction.

Wreaking havoc, the United States used its atomic weapon against Hiroshima in Japan on August 6, 1945. Three days later, Nagasaki was bombed. "Let us re-affirm our resolve to relentlessly strive for the elimination of weapons of mass destruction and to ensure the propagation of peace throughout the world," Mahajan said.

The House observed silence in memory of the victims. "Even after the passage of nearly seven decades, residents of these cities continue to suffer from the horrendous after effects of nuclear radiations," she said.
