Five doctors, including CEO of Hiranandani Hospital, were sent to 14-day judicial custody till August 26 in the kidney transplant racket, by a Mumbai Sessions Court on Saturday .

So far, 15 people—including the hospital's CEO and medical director and three doctors—have been arrested after the racket was busted at the hospital last month. CEO  Dr  Sujit Chatterjee, medical director  Dr  Anurag Naik and  doctors Prakash Shetty, Mukesh Shah and Mukesh Shetye were arrested on Tuesday night.

With investigators planning to plumb deeper into the racket at the multi speciality hospital in Powai, a court on Friday had rejected the anticipatory bail pleas of two doctors in the case, after the arrest of five doctors.

On July 15, the Powai police stopped an ongoing live-related kidney transplant and busted a kidney racket at Powai's Hiranandani hospital after receiving a tip-off.  The operation on Brijkishor Jaiswal, the recipient, was stopped at the last moment as police found that the woman who was donating him the kidney was not his real wife, contrary to the papers submitted by the duo.

Jaiswal, a Surat resident, was to receive a kidney from Shobha Thakur, showing Thakur as his wife, Rekha Devi. Thakur was promised Rs10 lakh for her kidney.
