Hingoli Lok Sabha constituency majorly located in the Marathwada region of Maharashtra is witnessing a battle between Sena leader and a former Sena MP who is now in Congress. In the 2014  LoK Sabha election, contesting for Shiv Sena, Subhash Wankhede lost narrowly to Congress candidate Rajeev Satav. In 2009, however Wankhede had won defeating NCP heavweight Suryakanta Patil.

But now Wankhede has switched over and is fighting for Congress against Shiv Sena's Hemant Patil; In the 28 member pool, other important contenders are from Prakash Ambedkar's VBA and BSP. Both the two leaders are from the Maratha community, which is one of the prominent voting blocks in this constituency.

Over 17 lakh people are eligible to vote on 18th April to chose their MP from Hingoli. The assembly segments under Hingoli are Umarkhed, Kinwat, Hingoli, Hadgaon, Basmath, Kalamnuri.

Marathwada has suffered drought in the last few years. BJP government's work for drought relief may become a crucial factor in this election. Historically, honours have been shared here. While Janata Party candidate Chandrakant Patil won the first Lok Sabha election after the seat was created in 1977, Congress has won five times since then including Uttam Rathod, who won thrice in row. Sena has won the seat four times and is hoping to get even with Congress when results are declared on May 23. Hingoli goes to poll on April 18.
