Four members of the right-wing group Hindu Sena ransacked the reservation office of the Pakistan International Airlines in central Delhi on Thursday. An alert Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) constable who is normally posted outside the office premise immediately swung into action, arresting one while the rest absconded.

According to facts narrated by police officials, the four men entered the reservation office of Pakistan’s national air carrier on the fifth floor of Narain Manzil at Barakhamba Road. The accused immediately started throwing pamphlets around yelling slogans against Pakistan. The miscreants made a big show of bumbling around office upturning chairs and knocking down a model of a plane with the carrier’s branding. According to witness accounts, they were protesting against the attacks on the Air Force Base in Pathankot.

According to Jatin Narwal, DCP, New Delhi “A constable posted outside the glass doors immediately arrested one of the accused named Lalit Singh.” However, according to witness accounts, following the capture of Singh, who claims to be one of the leaders of the extreme right wing organization, the other three got scared and ran away.

The damage at the office premise was minimal giving a clue that perhaps the “ activists” were merely there to create a scene. Members of the media even got an invitation from the Hindu Sena to “cover” the protest minutes after the event took place. Those who missed the live action did not have to worry since a pamphlet voicing their protest was delivered to them through the social media. When contacted, Vishnu Gupta, the head of the outfit was ignorant of his comrades antics and stated, “I knew they were planning something, I did not know it was done already.”

Following the tense relations between India and Pakistan, the office of the PIA have been attacked once before and hence, one constable is usually on guard outside the main doors during office hours. Four other constables are posted in the main foyer of the multi-storey building.
