Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh on Tuesday launched the Congress membership campaign saying the minimum target of membership should be 10 lakh.

Singh, who filled the membership form with ministers Vidya Stokes and Kaul Singh Thakur, former minister Harsh Mahajan and other senior leaders at the HPCC office, said that all those who sincerely believed in the ideology of Congress and wanted to become members should be enrolled without any discrimination and youth and women should be given preference.

The Chief Minister said the BJP has launched online membership but the Congress would continue with old practice of personally contacting the members. Stressing the need for unanimous elections of office bearers at all levels, Singh said it would help in strengthening the party and recalled that he remained the HPCC president thrice and every time his election was "unanimous".

Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) chief Sukhvinder Singh Sukkhu said the membership drive would start at block level from December 14 to December 25 and party workers would go to the booth level during the membership drive.
