On Tuesday, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman met rifleman Aurangzeb’s family in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district.

She said: “I came to meet martyr's family. I have spent some time here. One message I can take back from here is that here's a family, here's a martyr, who stands out as an inspiration for entire nation.”

The Chief of Army Staff General Bipin Rawat on Monday assured the family of Rifleman Aurangzeb that the sacrifice of the brave-heart will not go in vain.

General Rawat along with Northern Army Commander Lieutenant General Ranbir Singh and General Officer Commanding 16 Corps Lieutenant General Saranjeet Singh visited the residence of Rifleman Aurangzeb to meet the bereaved family at Salani village in the Poonch district of Jammu division.

Speaking to Aurangzeb’s father, the Army Chief assured him of all possible assistance to the family. “He also assured the family that the supreme sacrifice rendered by the brave son of India will not go in vain,” said Colonel NN Joshi, defence spokesman of the Northern Commander in Udhampur.

On Thursday, Riffleman Aurangzeb of 44 Rashtriya Rifles was abducted by terrorists when he was on his way home to celebrate Eid with his family. While the driver of the private car he was travelling in was later released, his bullet-riddled body was recovered from Gusso village. A day later, the killers released a video in which the jawan was being questioned about various encounters.

General Rawat, who arrived in Jammu and Kashmir early on Monday, visited forward areas.

“The Army Chief interacted with soldiers and complemented them for their professionalism, selfless commitment and loyalty. He exhorted them to continue to work with zeal and dedication,” Colonel Joshi said.
