AICC spokesperson Americai Narayanan has done the impossible. He has taken the thunder out of all other politicians to become the most mocked person on social media. It is likely that most Twitter users didn't know about Narayanan before Sunday. But thanks to his candid confession and catch phrase #HellYeah, he has become a part of social media folklore.

On the night of October 19, Narayanan was invited on one of the chat shows in a news channel known for alarming high decibel discussions. Just as the nation was warming up to know the reasons behind Congress' capitulation in the polls, our man of interest Americai threw a bombshell. In a video clip that has since gone viral on the internet, Americai Narayanan says with a surprising candour, "Was there corruption during the UPA regime? Hell Yeah!". Not only that, his mannerisms, clipped accent and relentless defence of Congress ensured that fellow panelists were forced hard not to break into a laugh.

What ensued was a gamut of jokes on social media. The hashtag #HellYeah trended on Twitter for two consecutive days.

Twitter users soon looked at his website and Facebook profile to find interesting nuggets about the newest Congress spokesperson on the block. Originally V Narayanan, his website says, "He was introduced to Tamil Nadu as "America" Narayanan by the Tamil magazine 'Junior Vikatan' in a cover page article, since then, he is commonly called as "America" Narayanan by auto drivers, slum dwellers and others in Tamil Nadu. However, he wants to be a humble public servant; hence, uses his name as Americai (means 'humble' in Tamil)".

Scouting through his website, we tumble upon more gems. He proudly announces that he has "India in HOME, America in Name". We were skeptical if he was being serious, but hell yeah he was! Americai's home is named India and while giving his phone number he mentions India within it!! Our man has a thing for puns as well. So his website has one segment with vision and another with wish-ion.

Educated in the University of Kentucky, Americai worked and had a successful life there as a professional before coming back to India. He joined Congress in 1988 and has been a state level spokesperson for the party in Tamil Nadu. He got his big break during the last Lok Sabha elections when he was named as part of the Congress’ 30-member “panelists on national media on state issues”. But unfortunately, he went below the radar during that time.

Sunday night was Narayanan's first big introduction on the national stage. Just when viewers were getting bored with the panelists repeating the same arguments ad nauseam, Narayanan came like a breath of air filled with laughing gas. To be fair, Americai is quite a sport and is even retweeting articles written about the controversy, also using the hashtag #HellYeah for several tweets and facebook posts.

Spokespersons of political parties are often the subject of jokes. The likes of Sanjay Jha for his dogged allegiance to Rahul Gandhi, Manish Tewari for using exotic English and Ravi Shankar Prasad for demanding the resignation of opponents in every matter, have always been ripe subjects for gags. Is Americai Narayanan the newest introduction to the infamous club? Hell yeah!!
