After lashing parts of Bengal on Sunday, in which five killed were killed due to lightning, it is raining heavily in Kolkata from Monday morning. According to MET department, rains are likely to get heavier during the afternoon. According to reports, the inclement weather is expected to continue for next 2-3 days. At Kolkata Airport, a staffer has been injured after a lightning strike.

From morning, Kolkata has witnessed heavy rains accompanied with strong winds. This is due to the development of a depression over Gangetic Bengal. With this, monsoon has officially entered West Bengal after being inactive for nearly a month. Along with the Gangetic planes, North Bengal is also getting ample amount of rain.

Kolkata and its adjoining places are witnessing steady rainfall from the morning. Kolkata Municipal Corporation is trying to address the problem of waterlogging by ensuring all the pumps in the 73 pumping stations are working smoothly. High tide in Hooghly river is also making life difficult for the authorities as it may lead to water logging in low lying areas. Normal traffic has been hit, owing to water logging in several parts of the city.

Five persons were killed and seven others injured in incidents of lightning strikes in Nadia and Bankura districts of West Bengal on Sunday, police said. While three farmers were killed and five others injured at Gajna in Nadia district, two persons were killed and two others injured in the state's Bankura district, the police said. In Nadia district, the three farmers died when they were working in a field during rain and thunderstorm. When they were taken to the Krishnaganj rural hospital, the three were declared brought dead, a police officer said.

The five injured were admitted to the Shaktinagar hospital, a police officer said. In Bankura district a 65-year-old woman, a resident of Birsing village, was killed in a lightning strike when she was working in a field, the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Bankura, Sukhendu Hira, said. A 37-year-old man was also killed in lightning strike in Manushmari under the jurisdiction of the same police station, the SP said.
