The searing heat in Odisha intensified and claimed

another victim taking the summer toll to two. The death was

reported from Angul district, the office of the Special Relief

Commissioner (SRC) said in a statement.

Western Odisha districts sizzled in the heat and

Titlagarh in Balangir district remained the hottest place at

43.6 degree Celsius. Balangir town and Talcher recorded 43.5

degrees followed by Bhawanipatna in Kalahandi district at 43.2

degrees, the met office here said.

The mercury breached the 40 degree mark in at least 11

places in the state. The mercury was at 42.2 degree Celsius at

Malkangiri, 42 degrees at Jharsuguda, 41.7 degrees at Angul,

41.2 degrees at Sonepur, 41 degrees at Sambalpur and

Hirakud and 40.4 degree Celsius at Phulbani.

The maximum temperature in Bhubaneswar was 38.8 degree

celsius, and 37.4 degree Celsius in neighbouring Cuttack city,

the Met office said.

Delhi sweated through a hot day with the maximum

temperature settling at 40.5 degrees Celsius.

According to Met office, the city is likely to reel under

heat wave-like conditions next week with the mercury expected

to hit at least 41 degree Celsius.

Heat wave also swept several parts of Rajasthan where

Barmer was the hottest registering a maximum temperature of

45.5 degrees Celsius.

Bikaner, Churu and Srigangangar recorded maximum of 45

degrees Celsius while Jaisalmer, Kota and Jodhpur recorded day

temperature of 44.8, 44.6 and 44. 4 degrees Celsius

respectively, according to Met department here.

Intense heat wave conditions also swept parts of Haryana

and Punjab, with Narnaul being the hottest place in the region

recording a maximum temperature of 44 degrees Celsius.

Narnaul in Haryana sizzled eight degrees above normal

maximum temperature, the MeT Department report said here.

Hisar was also under the grip of intense heat at 43.4

degrees Celsius, up six notches against normal.

Ambala, too, had a hot day at 39.4 degrees Celsius five

degrees above normal limits.

Chandigarh recorded a high of 38.9 degrees Celsius, up

four degrees against normal. In Punjab, Amritsar saw a hot day

at 41 degrees Celsius, nine notches more than normal limits.

Ludhiana and Patiala recorded near similar maximum

temperature today at 40.9 and 40.8 degrees Celsius,

respectively, both six degrees above normal each.
