Indian Army jawan Sepoy Sudees Kumar of the 6 Rajputana Rifles has left his family mourning after he sacrificed his life in the line of duty during the ceasefire violations conducted by the Pakistani troops on Sunday along the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir. "We got a call in the evening and were informed about the sad news," said Sudees' father.

"He never left us and always had a smile on his face before serving his duty," he added. "An Army Jawan, Sepoy Sudees Kumar was martyred when Pakistan Army initiated indiscriminate and unprovoked firing on Indian Army posts along the Line of Control (LC) in Rajauri sector on 16 October 2016," said Defence Spokesperson Lt Col Manish Mehta. Kumar (24) is survived by his wife.

"The soldier hailed from Sambhal District of Uttar Pradesh. The area in which incident took place falls in Tarkundi belt of Rajouri district," Lt Col Mehta added.

The ceasefire violations by Pakistan took place on a day when India hosted leaders of a number of countries, including Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping, for the BRICS and BIMSTEC Summit. Pakistan opened unprovoked fire in Naushera Sector to which the Indian troops gave a befitting reply.

Following the September 18 Uri terror army base attack that killed 19 soldiers and India's subsequent surgical strikes on terror launch pads in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK), there has been a flare-up on the LoC with both nuclear-armed countries intermittently trading heavy fire.
