The Chhattisgarh High Court today asked the Union home secretary to appear before it on September 13 in connection with a petition challenging the election of MLA Amit Jogi, son of former chief minister Ajit Jogi.
A bench headed by Justice Goutam Bhaduri asked the Union home secretary and the chairperson of the state's High-Powered Caste Verification Committee to remain present on September 13, lawyer Satischandra Verma said.
Verma is representing BJP leader Samira Paikra who filed the election petition in 2014, seeking to invalidate Amit's election from Marwahi.
Paikra who contested on a BJP ticket had lost the election.
She has challenged, among other things, Amit's caste certificate.
