At a press conference here today, Director General of Police (DGP) B S Sandhu said necessary directions had been issued to district police chiefs at a meeting via video- conferencing.
Focus would be laid on redressing complaints of people during the campaign. "Efforts would be made to develop friendly relations with the people of the state," he said.
On tackling the drug menace, he said an eye would be kept on educational institutions and stern action would be taken suppliers.
Replying to a question regarding 'Operation Durga', which is aimed at checking eve-teasing in the state, the DGP said the drive would be intensified near schools, colleges, bus stands and railway stations.
He clarified the drive would not act as "moral policing" and that innocents would not be harassed.
On the proposed agitation by opposition Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) leader Abhay Singh Chautala from July 10, Sandhu said that in a democracy every political party had the right to present its viewpoint, but if it took the law in its own hands, action would be initiated.
The INLD has announced that it will stop Punjab Roadways buses from plying in Haryana on July 10 in protest against the delay in the construction of the Sutlej Yamuna Link (SYL) canal.
An order has been issued for procurement of e-challan machines to effectively carry out the drive in all districts.
On cyber crime, the police chief said, "It is a sensitive matter and a cyber cell is operational to deal with such cases. Soon a cyber police station will be set up at Moginand in Panchkula district to deal with such cases." Rules would be reviewed for improving the efficiency of the police department, he said.
He said action would be initiated against police officers for unauthorised use of electricity in their official residence.
He said violation of the state's cow protection law would not be allowed and if anyone took the law in his hands, action would be initiated against him, he said.
There has been reduction in the number of cases of cow smuggling after the law came into force, he claimed.
