A married couple was shot at by unknown bike-borne assailants in Gurugram’s Badshahpur early Tuesday. While the wife sustained injuries and is  reported to be out of danger, the husband was killed on the way to hospital, news agency ANI reported.

Relatives of the victim suspect a man named Tillu to be behind the crime. According to ACP Birmal Singh, who spoke to the news agency, Tillu had earlier shot someone in the area and the victim who was killed on Tuesday rushed him to hospital.

An investigation is currently on, but no arrests have been made as yet.

Crime in Haryana has put a lot of pressure on the Manohar Lal Khattar government in the past two months. In January, people were up in arms over the law and order situation in the state, after five women were raped in as many days. A 15-year-old girl's half-naked body was found on January 13 from near the bank of a canal in a village in Jind district days after she had gone missing from her village in Kurukshetra district. In a separate incident, an 11-year-old girl was raped and killed in Panipat last week, while three other minor girls were raped by unknown people in the month of January.

BJP MP from Haryana's Kurukshetra, Raj Kumar Saini, said such incidents are not new and have been taking place for ages.

"These incidents do not take place after informing the government. These have been happening for ages. Such incidents have been increasing in proportion to population and social activities," Saini said.

Haryana had even passed a law to issue death penalty to those individuals guilty of raping girls who were 12 years old or younger.
