Less than a month after a son of Haryana BJP chief Subhash Barala was arrested in a stalking case, the victim's father has been transferred to a low-key department.

The Haryana government on Tuesday shifted Varinder Singh Kundu - Additional Chief Secretary (Tourism) as ACS (science and technology). He has been replaced by Vijai Vardhan, Additional Chief Secretary (Labour).

However, Kundu who is also the Vice Chancellor of Rohtak-based SUPVA, will continue to remain on the post.

Kundu was among the 14 IAS and two state civil service officers transferred by the Haryana government.

"VS Kundu gets sidelined. Punished for standing upto BJP in quest for justice for his daughter, Varnika Kundu," tweeted Congress leader Randeep S Surjewala with a list of transferred officers.

The stalking incident came to light when the victim called up the police, complaining that two youth were chasing her along a stretch of over five kilometre from Chandigarh right up to a point in the Union Territory, adjoining Haryana's border.

Vikas Barala and co-accused Ashish Kumar were put behind bars after the Chandigarh police slapped a charge of attempted abduction against them.

The victim had expressed her anguish in a social media post saying she was lucky not to be the daughter of a commoner or else who knows what her fate could be.

"There were two guys inside the SUV, and they seemed to really be enjoying harassing a lone girl in the middle of the night, judging by how often their car swerved, just enough to scare me that it might hit me," she said in a Facebook post. "I'm lucky, it seems, to not be the daughter of a common man, because what chance would they have against such VIPs? I'm also lucky, because I'm not lying raped and murdered in a ditch somewhere. If this can happen in Chandigarh, it can happen anywhere," she said in a Facebook post.
