Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar met Power Minister Piyush Goyal on Monday to seek uninterrupted power supply for his state along with mechanisms for effective electricity generation and transmission.

Citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for round-the -clock power for the people of the country, Lal said that the Haryana government is committed to ensuring the same for consumers in the state. Towards that end, the state government has also initiated a process to coordinate with the Centre.

While giving his consent for the state's participation in central government schemes for better power supply, the Haryana Chief Minister said that his government was of the view that every village and farm can get adequate power. Lal added at the same time that there was a need to change worn out electricity transmission wires in a major part of Haryana.

Goyal assured Lal that the Centre would provide all possible help to Haryana to ensure 24-hour power supply. The Union minister also pointed out said that the Prime Minister recently launched the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti and IPDS schemes for effective power distribution.

Under the above schemes, infrastructure facilities for power distribution would be strengthened while separate feeders would be arranged for the domestic and agricultural sector in rural and urban areas. State governments have to contribute about 20 per cent of the cost under these schemes with the rest of the expenditure to be borne by the Centre.

The power minister assured Lal that there would be no interruption in power supply due to shortage of coal. He said that similar efforts have also been made at the central level under which it is made sure that the coal being supplied to thermal power plants fulfils the quality criteria.

Goyal also said that effective steps need to be taken for preventing electricity theft.
