As BJP suffered a humiliating loss in Delhi Assembly elections, senior leader and Haryana minister Anil Vij on Tuesday criticised the party's strategy and said it should not have "imported leaders".

The minister tweeted the following, which in Hindi translates to "If the party had concentrated on building leaders rather than importing them, then this would not have been the position of the party".

Days ahead of the Assembly polls, Kiran Bedi, a former IPS officer and a core team member of Anna Hazare's India Against Corruption, was named as the BJP's chief ministerial candidate. Former AAP leader Shazia Ilmi and former UPA cabinet minister and Congress leader Krishna Tirath were among others who joined the BJP.

In a near-sweep, the AAP decimated BJP and Congress by recorded a landslide victory and is set to secure 66 of the 70 seats in the Delhi Assembly elections, halting the the Modi juggernaut in its tracks.

A crestfallen Bedi, who herself suffered a shocking defeat from party's traditional bastion Krishna Nagar, also sought forgiveness from the party and workers for not living up to their expectations.
