The police have arrested a 38-year-old man from Thane for allegedly harassing one of his female colleagues in a private company in Vashi.

The 40-year-old victim, who works with an insurance company at Vashi sector 17, was allegedly being harassed by one of her seniors, Mukesh Pandey, since the last one-and-a-half year. She had reported to the company about the harassment and a committee was formed to resolve the matter.

Unfortunately, no action was taken against the accused by the committee members. dna had reported that the victim had approached the police and registered a case against her senior and the committee members in the first week of February. "Mukesh Pandey joined the insurance company in August 2012, where I have been working for the last nine years. Right from the beginning I found his behaviour unprofessional. Within a short span of time I understood that he wanted sexual favours from me and I complained to my seniors as well as the HR department," said the victim, a resident of Kharghar.

But the committee formed to resolve the matter did not come to any logical conclusion in the past seven to eight months. "Meanwhile, Pandey started passing indirect comments and virtually told me to be ready for the consequences, in front of everyone. I finally approached the police," she said.

Rajesh Deware, police inspector from Vashi police station said, "We had been investigating the case and collecting evidences against the accused. He was finally arrested on Saturday morning."

The police have booked the accused under sections 354a, 509 and 294 of the Indian Penal Code. He was produced before the judicial court on Saturday afternoon and was remanded to police custody for one day.
