Haryana DGP B S Sandhu today said that adequate security arrangements have been made in the state keeping in view the verdict next week in the case involving the Dera Sacha Sauda chief.
"No untoward incident would be allowed to happen," he told reporters here, adding that the state police is fully prepared to maintain law and order.
"We have sought 150 companies of paramilitary forces from the Centre. The leave of police personnel have also been cancelled in view of the security arrangements," the DGP said.
Security would be closely monitored in sensitive areas of Panchkula, Sirsa, Ambala, Kurukshetra, Karnal, Kaithal, Hisar, Fatehabad and Jind of the state, he said.
It has been directed to make adequate security arrangements in sensitive areas from today onwards, the officer said.
In a related development, Superintendent of Police (SP), Sonipat, Ashwin Shenvi was today posted as SP Sirsa against a vacant post. Sirsa is the headquarters of the Dera Sacha Sauda.
The dera chief has a large number of followers in the two states-- Punjab and Haryana-- and in the region.
The Punjab and the Haryana governments had yesterday sought central forces, following apprehension of law and order problems, if the verdict goes against him.
The chief secretaries and DGPs of both the states met the Union Home Secretary in New Delhi yesterday.
They apprised him of the steps been taken to ensure law and order ahead of the court's verdict and also briefed him on the security arrangements.
The special CBI court in Panchkula will pronounce its judgement in the sexual exploitation case against Dera Sacha Sauda chief on August 25.
The Sirsa headquartered sect head has also been asked to appear in person before the court on the same day.
The case was registered against the dera chief in 2002 by the CBI on the directions of the Punjab and Haryana High Court after anonymous letters were circulated about the alleged sexual exploitation of two 'sadhvis' (female followers) by Gurmeet Ram Rahim.
However, Rahim has denied these charges.
