"Hame yahi rahne do" (let me remain here), Priyanka Gandhi said on Thursday, virtually turning down local Congress leaders' requests to join active politics.

Priyanka was accompanying her mother Sonia Gandhi during a visit to the Congress President's constituency in Rae Bareli.

During inspection of city resource centre, Priyanka was requested by local corporator Dharmendra Dwivedi to join active politics of the state to which she smilingly said, "Hame yahin rahne do, wahan kyun bhej rahe ho?" (Let me remain here. Why are you sending me there? (other parts of the state).

In the past, there have been demands by Congress leaders from various parts of the state to Priyanka for joining politics.

However, she has confined herself to Rae Bareli and Amethi, constituencies of her mother Sonia and brother Rahul Gandhi, and always ruled out joining active politics beyond these two.

Earlier, Priyanka attended a meeting of district vigilance and monitoring committee with Sonia.
