Aug 14, 2014: PIL was filed by Dr Noorjehan Safia Niaz challenging the ban on entry of woman inside inner sanctorum of Haji Ali dargah.

Jan 28, 2015: A bench of Bombay High court frames eight questions mainly dealing with maintainability of the PIL, asks petitioners to reply.

Feb 11, 2015: PIL assigned to bench headed by Justice VM Kanade.

Apr 1, 2015: Since Haji Ali dargah trust did not seriously contest maintainability of PIL it was admitted and posted for final hearing.

Jul 10, 2015: Bench headed by Justice VM Kanade sets aside previous order framing eight questions by an earlier bench of HC on maintainability and decided to hear PIL on merits.

Jul 21, 2015: Court makes oral suggestion to Haji Ali dargah trust to allow entry of woman inside inner sanctorum from a separate entrance as was done prior to 2012.

Oct 19, 2015: Haji Ali dargah trust submits a resolution to the court, stating that entry of women in the close vicinity of male saint was a grievous sin and thus, suggestion of court cannot be allowed. Accordingly, matter is kept for final hearing.

Feb 9, 2016: Former Advocate General Shreehari Aney clears stand of state on entry of woman inside the dargah and says “Women should be barred from entering the inner sanctorum of Haji Ali Dargah only if it is so enshrined in the Quran. The ban on women's entry cannot be justified if it is on the basis of an expert's interpretation of the Quran.”

Apr 21, 2016: NGOs, Muslim scholars and leftist parties join hands to launch a "peaceful movement" called Haji Ali Sabke Liye (Haji Ali for all).

Apr 28, 2016: Trupti Desai and others protest at Dargah Road for entry.

May 12, 2016: Trupti Desai enters Haji Ali dargah, stops short of entering inner sanctum.

Jun 9, 2016: Bombay High Court reserves order judgement on the petition.

Aug 26, 2016: Bombay High Court lifts ban saying it contravenes the fundamental rights of a person. The court, however, stays its order for six weeks following a plea by Haji Ali Dargah Trust, which wants to challenge it in the Supreme Court.
