The Gurugram police have arrested five people for attempting to rape a 21-year-old information technology (IT) professional.

The incident took place on Thursday in a plush condominium in Sector 86 when the victim was climbing the stairs to her second-floor apartment after returning from office.

According to reports, residents claim that two arrested accused, who resides on the first floor are the habitual offender. They hail from Safidon in Haryana’s Jind district.

The residents also alleged that the police delayed filing an FIR and tried to cover up the matter.

“The victim opted to take the stairs to her apartment and was assaulted by the accused in the staircase near the first floor. She managed to run and informed her parents,”a police officer told Hindustan Times.

“I was about to pick it up when the man tried to grab my hand. I managed to run. After I reached home, I informed mom and dad. I was really scared. They also tried to threaten my parents,” a woman said in a complaint.

The arrested accused have been remanded to judicial custody.
