The police were tipped off that the men in the car were wanted criminals.

A shootout took place between the police and a criminal gang in Gurgaon on Wednesday, reports NDTV. One criminal was injured. The police has arrested all four criminals.
The criminals were traveling in a Santro in Sector 10 which is close to Haryana border. According to ACP Rajesh Kumar, the police were tipped off that the men in the car were wanted criminals. The police indicated the car to pull over, but the driver started shooting at them, following which an officer returned fire. Kumar said that two bullets were fired in all. "One of the criminals got an injury on his right leg, while four were captured. No civilian was injured," the ACP said.
In July, gunmen chasing an SUV opened fire at it, causing the SUV to ram into a few cars and topple over and crush an autorickshaw, killing the auto driver.
