The Jammu and Kashmir police on Thursday arrested three Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists and recovered four AK-56 and two AK-47 rifles and 180 lives from them. The cops also found Rs 4.5 lakh in cash.

The weapons had been hidden among fruits and groceries and were being transported to Srinagar in a truck. Their sinister plan was laid bare when the police stopped the vehicle between Kathua and Lakhanpur on Punjab-Jammu border, said officials.

"The three are affiliated to Jaish-e-Mohammad," said SSP Kathua Sridhar Patil.

The recovery comes amid reports of desperate terror elements trying to create disturbances in the Valley, particularly after the Centre removed the special status of Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 and split the state into two Union Territories for usher in development.

"Pakistan sponsored terror continues to be up to mischief. According to SSP Kathua (Jammu & Kashmir), a truck carrying arms and ammunition has been recovered in Kathua, more details are awaited," tweeted Union minister Jitendra Singh.

Last week, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval said that a large number of weapons were being smuggled into Kashmir to disrupt peace and prevent normalcy. Over 42,000 lives have been lost due to cross-border terrorism sponsored by Pakistan, he had said.

The Border Security Force recently said that Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad was training nearly 50 terrorists in deep-sea diving to target India.
